Remember, it's the Jupiter flyby/gravity assist at the New Horizons Pluto/Kuiper Belt mission homepage. Io is still regularly erupting from its volcanos. They're currently B&W only pics, though.

However, the piccies of Mars from the Rosetta mission are in full colour, and rather stunning too! There's more at the gravity assist addicted comet hacking probe's homepage, including 3D anaglyph images of Mars!

..as Pluto loses its status as a planet

A planet is now defined as 'a celestial body that is in orbit around the sun, has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a nearly round shape, and has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit'

Pluto failed on the final hurdle as its odd eliptical oblong orbit crosses the orbit of Neptune.

It's probably tidier this way, as the prior proposed definition would have dramaticly increased the number of planets, including the asteroid Ceres near Mars, plus UB313 ('Xena') and others.

On the bright side, it also pisses off the astrologers - you need to rethink your hokum, chaps.

(dry technical references aren't always that inspiring), but how can I resist if friends keep sending me useful links.

From [info]spride New high resolution images of sunspots - it's really rather interesting how scientists are managing to compensate for Earth's atmospheric conditions and create new ultra high resolution telescopes.

In blind taste tests by experts, Tesco Premier Cru, at £14.79 a bottle, beat 282 other non-vintage offerings from top names like Taittinger and Lanson (!). I'm not much of a bubbly fan to be honest, but if it's your cup of tea..

Yoga - I'm going to search round for a class again, but to make it easier - does anyone know of a yoga class in Bolton or nearby? I was doing Hatha and Raja yoga, but the teacher moved away :(.

Don't forget there is still a wealth of data coming from the Cassini-Huygens mission to Saturn - huge quantities of images/movies of Saturn and its moons. Even more data is availaible direct from the imaging team
